LAS VEGAS (AP) — The Nevada Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed a defamation lawsuit brought by casino mogul Steve Wynn against The Associated Press over a story about two women’s accounts to police alleging he engaged in sexual misconduct. The court cited state anti-SLAPP law in rejecting Wynn's claim that he was defamed in the February 2018 AP article, which cited police documents. SLAPP, or strategic lawsuits against public participation, refers to court filings made to intimidate or silence critics. The Supreme Court accepted written briefings but did not hear oral arguments again before issuing Thursday's ruling.

“The first pictures AP received from any freelancer show they were taken more than an hour after the attacks began. In a statement, CNN said Eslaiah was not working for the network on the day of the attack. “We had no prior knowledge of the October 7th attacks,” a CNN spokesperson said. A member of Israel’s war cabinet, Benny Gantz, also used the report to question whether journalists had prior knowledge of the attack. The Committee to Protect Journalists denounced the Israeli government’s rhetoric, warning it could put media workers in harm’s way.

“At 5:50p during the Fox 10 newscast today a small graphic appeared on the lower left side of the screen showing test results for the upcoming election,” they said (here). You don’t test election graphics during a live program. One journalist wrote on Twitter that stations do use test results in their systems before an election. Local television stations accidentally airing test election results before the election has happened before during the 2020 elections at local stations in Michigan and Illinois (here), (here). The Associated Press confirmed that they send test data to their media customers with randomly generated results ahead of elections.
